Tony Bellew has claimed that a former star of the heavyweight division should now hang up his gloves for good.
Bellew has witnessed plenty of change in the banner division right now. All four of the major belts are shared between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. They come together for a second time on July 19 to once again establish an undisputed four-belt ruler.
Usyk is now 38 years old and has accomplished everything there is to achieve in the sport, having been undisputed down at cruiserweight before repeating the feat at heavyweight back in May 2024.
Dubois is 27 and will likely be around for a while yet, regardless of the result of his rematch with Wilder.
Elsewhere, former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua is also nearing the end as he is 35-years-old and hasn’t fought for a year, so he could well only have a couple of fights left. Fellow Brit and former champion Tyson Fury is currently retired and also in his late 30s.
In a recent post on X, Bellew expressed his belief that Deontay Wilder, who once ruled over the division with a fearsome knockout ratio as WBC champion, should also remain away from the ring.
“I wish Deontay Wilder well and hope he now thinks about his wealth and ultimately his health … He’s done. Resistance and hunger are both gone.”
Widler has not fought since June last year when he lost by KO to Zhilei Zhang, which came off the back of a points loss to Joseph Parker and two KO losses to Fury in their trilogy. However, he returns this month against Tyrell Herndon and has vowed he is back for major honours.
