Tony Bellew thinks there is only one path for Conor Benn to follow in the wake of his loss to Ryan Garcia.
Benn has done exceptionally well to get to where he is at and earn the money he has earned, given that he had no amateur background to speak of. He has dedicated himself to the gym and proven to be a good talker outside the ring.
Following some impressive wins against the likes of Chris Algieri and Samuel Vargas, he went in against his generational rival Chris Eubank Jr and got beaten by the more experienced man the first time around.
Second time around, Eubank looked to everyone like he was suffering from having made the weight and put in a meek performance that saw him dominated by Benn, who won on points.
Last weekend, Benn stepped up for his maiden world title shot and was stopped inside the first two rounds by the much sharper Garcia. He is now back home recovering with friends and family but already talk has turned to what he might do next.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Bellew admitted that the one and only fight for him now is a rubber match with his old rival.
“You’ve got a trilogy there to compete. Go and do it. No one could give you any better advice than that; there is no better advice. There will be 100,000 people who will fill Wembley.
“Those two are always going to create fireworks if it was in a car park or Wembley Stadium, people will want to see it, and they will do numbers. It’s just the name Benn and Eubank. It relates to everybody in every demographic. It ticks so many boxes; it just makes sense, just go and do it.”
Eubank has recently been seen back in the gym following the birth of his twin children, and Benn has said previously he would happily go back up towards 160lbs where they fought before, which might be enough to get this one made sometime down the line.
