Ben Whittaker has been swiftly rising through the ranks and has now been offered a potential shot at his first world title.

Whittaker has already proven to be a rather decisive figure in the boxing ring. He is a fighter who likes to showboat, to play act in the ring, tease his opponent and generally play to the crowd while getting his work done.

He is a former Olympic medallist who turned professional in 2022 and since then has fought 11 times, winning 10, seven by KO and with just one draw to Liam Cameron, which he avenged in the rematch with a second-round stoppage win.

Last time out at the end of November, he stopped Benjamin Gavazi in his first fight since signing with Matchroom Boxing, having switched over from Ben Shalom’s Boxxer.

That win gave him the vacant WBC Silver light-heavyweight title heading into 2026, and now he has been told he could fight for the full belt.

In a new post on X shared by Boxing Scene, the father and trainer of WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez has called out Whittaker for a fight with his son.

“Let’s make it happen! We Want to give the fans the fights they want to see. Leave your comment, we are ready @benwhittaker @eddiehearn.”

This would be a huge step up for Whittaker. Benavidez is a two-weight world champion who has a famously high work rate and last time out he stopped a game Anthony Yarde inside seven rounds having also beaten the likes of David Morell, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade.

Whittaker has since been ordered to have a WBC final eliminator against fellow Brit Joshua Buatsi, which could potentially pave the way for the fight against Benavidez.
