The boxing world continues to weigh in on the potential match-up between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

The battle could take place in 2025, as it brings together two of the very best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in a fight that never seemed possible as recent as 12 months ago.

Canelo is the current unified world super-middleweight champion, while Crawford holds the WBA super-welterweight title, and so he would have to move up a further two weight classes for the fight.

Top contender David Benavidez is the latest big name that has offered his thoughts, once again weighing in on the bout involving his long-term rival Canelo.

Benavidez is now campaigning at light-heavyweight after failing to secure a fight with the Mexican superstar. He has told Sean Zittel where he believes the clash with Crawford could be would and lost having previously been on the fence about the match-up.

“To be honest Crawford is one of the best technical fighters I’ve ever seen, but when he went to 154, I’m not saying he had problems but he looked like he didn’t have the power he had at 147, and he’d still have to come up two weight classes.

“Crawford is a one of a kind fighter, and especially if he knows he’s going to 168 he’ll probably bulk up, but weight classes have to be respected. Canelo is the more natural super-middleweight.

“If Crawford is going against Canelo, in his first fight at 168, he has a lot of disadvantages against him, so I feel like Canelo would win. He’s bigger and more experienced so I give him the edge.”

Benavidez isn’t the only man to give his take on the fight, with a former sparring partner of both men also making a bold prediction.
