David Benavidez has weighed in on the much anticipated fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.
The pound-for-pound stars are set to do battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship in just a month’s time at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
‘Bud’ Crawford will make his first appearance at 168lbs when he challenges the Mexican icon next month, looking to win all four belts in a third weight class.
Canelo has been a dominant force at 168 since he made the move up from middleweight back in 2018, capturing the undisputed championship on two separate occasions whilst defeating the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Plant, Jaime Munguia and Gennady Golovkin amongst others. He did not, however, face Benavidez when he was competing at the weight, much to the irritation of fans.
In an interview with ESNEWS, Benavidez revealed his prediction, saying the weight difference between the duo will be the deciding factor.
“I mean to be honest with you, I think Canelo wins it just because of the weight, you know, he’s a natural 168 pounder. I don’t like that Crawford’s coming up three weight classes so I think Canelo’s gonna win the fight.”
Benavidez returns to action at light-heavyweight in November, defending his WBC World Title against contender Anthony Yarde. He has expressed interest in facing Canelo still, however says the Mexican must move up in weight rather than himself dropping back down. If Crawford wins, Benavidez has no interest in that particular match-up.
