David Benavidez Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Terence Crawford Can Beat Canelo Alvarez

Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez could be on the cards for 2025.

After it seemed like hopes were fading of seeing the mega fight, there has been increased optimism in recent weeks due to Canelo and Crawford both searching for opponents for next Spring.

‘Bud’ was last in action in August when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title, while Canelo retained his unified super-middleweights titles against Edgar Berlanga in September.

If Canelo vs. Crawford is made, it could spell further disappointment for WBC interim light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez, who has been keen to secure a fight with Canelo for a number of years, but has been unable to do so.

Benavidez has offered his thoughts on how ‘Bud’ could fare against Canelo, and he says the American absolutely has a chance, though wouldn’t be surprised if it goes the other way entirely.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Crawford gives him a great fight, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Canelo beats him easy.

“Crawford is a great fighter but his last fight was at 154 and it was a super tough fight. So imagine he’s going up two more weight classes to 168. There are weight classes for a reason.

“Crawford is a great fighter so he could definitely make it a great fight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not a hard fight for Canelo.”

If it isn’t Canelo next, another option for ‘Bud’ could be a clash with super-welterweight sensation Vergil Ortiz, and the only fighter to have faced both men has offered his prediction for that battle.
