David Benavidez has once again been linked with showdowns against Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev following his crushing win over Anthony Yarde.

‘The Mexican Monster’ made his long-awaited return to the ring against Yarde on Saturday night, stopping the durable Brit in the seventh round of their clash in Riyadh to defend his WBC light-heavyweight title for the first time.

Whilst Benavidez is expected to make the move up to cruiserweight ahead of his next outing, the 28-year-old from Phoenix remains set on achieving undisputed status at 175lbs in the near future.

Speaking to iFL TV shortly after his win over Yarde, ‘The Mexican Monster’ was asked to reveal who he would prefer to face between Bivol and Beterbiev.

“Just for the title standpoint Bivol, but I think a fight that people would enjoy more is Beterbiev and you know, at the end of the day I’m here for the fans. I’m just a vessel for the fans to enjoy.

“You know, if I’m going to tell somebody I’m going to go in there I’m going to war, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m true to this.”

Benavidez is set to face unified WBA and WBO world cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez at an unconfirmed location in the United States on Saturday May 2, but the 28-year-old is likely to make a move back down the 175lbs before the end of next year.

It means he could be awaiting the result of the much anticipated trilogy encounter between Bivol and Beterbiev, which is expected to take place in 2026.
