David Benavidez has revealed who he believes are the best three fighters on the planet right now.
‘The Mexican Monster’ has established himself as one of the sport’s most exciting fighters over the last couple of years, proving to be a force during his respective campaigns at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight.
The 28-year-old from Phoenix currently reigns as the WBC light-heavyweight champion, with his first title defence set to come against Britain’s Anthony Yarde in Riyadh later this month.
Victory over Yarde could move Benavidez even closer to securing himself a clash with Russian superstar Dmitry Bivol, who currently holds the unified WBA, WBO and IBF light-heavyweight titles.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Benavidez who he believes are the top three fighters in the world right now, naming one man in particular ahead of countryman Terence Crawford.
“I think [Oleksandr] Usyk is number one, without a doubt. I don’t think anybody even comes close to Usyk because of the amount of big fights he’s taken back-to-back … So, you have to give it to Crawford [number two] and then Inoue [number three].”
Usyk cemented himself as the greatest heavyweight of his generation back in July when he defeated Daniel Dubois in their historic rematch at Wembley Stadium to capture the undisputed heavyweight championship for the second time.
Both Crawford and Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue are also familiar with becoming undisputed champions, each achieving this feat in more than one weight division.
‘Bud’ currently holds the undisputed super-middleweight championship, which he captured from Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez on September 13.
As for Inoue, ‘The Monster’ reigns as the undisputed super-bantamweight champion as it stands, making his most recent title defence against long-term rival Murodjon Akhmadaliev back in September.
