The debate continues to rage on surrounding the scoring of Artur Beterbiev‘s fight with Dmitry Bivol.
They met in Saudi Arabia in October, looking to crown the first undisputed champion in the light-heavyweight division for over 20 years.
It was an extremely tight contest with lots of close rounds, but Beterbiev was the man who got his hand raised, winning by majority decision after scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114 to add the WBA title to his WBC, WBO and IBF collection.
Some viewers disagreed with the scoring, claiming that the 116-112 card was far too wide, while others were accepting of how things unfolded.
One man that was an interested observer in the fight was David Morrell, the current WBA Regular champion, who is set to face David Benavidez in a high stakes battle at 175lbs in January.
Benavidez holds the WBC interim light-heavyweight title, so the winner between he and Morrell could be on a future collision course with Beterbiev.
Morrell has weighed in on the Beterbiev vs Bivol scoring whilst speaking to FightHype, revealing that he agreed with the verdict entirely.
“It was close 100%. Somebody said they scored it for Bivol, but for me Beterbiev 100% won this fight.”
A rematch between Beterbiev and Bivol could be taking place next, after it was announced that’s the direction that Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh is hoping to move in.
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has also recently revealed his scorecard for the undisputed light-heavyweight fight, making it clear it if he agreed with the outcome.
