David Benavidez makes the first defence of his WBC light-heavyweight title against Anthony Yarde tonight.

Benavidez joined the ranks at 175lbs last year and has since claimed wins over Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Morrell, leading to ‘The Mexican Monster’ being elevated to full WBC champion in April after Dmitry Bivol vacated the belt.

Prior to that Benavidez was a two-time world champion at super-middleweight, and will look to add to his unbeaten 30-0 record when he faces Yarde this evening.

Yarde is attempting to claim world honours at the third time of asking, after coming up short in his previous two world title bids when he took on Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbiev respectively.

He heads into the bout with Benavidez on the back of four straight victories, the most recent of those coming against Lyndon Arthur in April, but faces a much tougher task when he collides with ‘The Mexican Monster.’
