A newly crowned world champion is unimpressed with the skills of fellow welterweight Conor Benn.

Benn got the best win of his career in November when he beat Chris Eubank Jr in their much-anticipated rematch.

Following an all-action first fight which ended with a unanimous points loss for Benn, he managed to flip the script in the reverse and dominated from the off, boxing well on the outside, landing solid jabs and having his man down twice late on to secure a near shutout on the cards.

Since then, he has been keen to call out several fighters down at welterweight, where he says he intends to return, having fought up at 160lbs in these last two contests.

He has named WBC ruler Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia as potential opponents, as well as now three-weight world champion Devin Haney.

Speaking to FightHub TV, Haney downplayed Benn’s abilities after picking up a WBO belt following his win over Brian Norman at the weekend.

“Conor Benn, he’s nothing to me. He’s never accomplished nothing compared to me. His biggest win is fighting a weight-drained Chris Eubank. He’s never been a world champion, he’s never done nothing in the sport of boxing.

“He got lucky with that opportunity cause he’s Eddie Hearn’s puppet. At the end of the day, he’s nothing. He hasn’t accomplished nothing in the sport of boxing. He can say what he wants to say. He’s not on my level.”

Haney has also held titles at lightweight and light welterweight and is one of the best in the world, so he would provide the biggest test yet of Benn’s career were they to fight.
