Benn has fought just twice in the last three years, and both contests were out in the United States against low-key opposition as a way for the Brit to stay busy while he battled to get his British boxing licence back.
He was unable to fight in the UK following his positive drug test shortly ahead of his first proposed fight with Eubank Jr back in October 2022.
His bitter generational rival Eubank has fought three times since then, including back-to-back fights with former world champion Liam Smith.
He lost the first after being knocked down and out for the first time in his career, then won the reverse with a KO of his own. He followed that up with another stoppage victory back in October, this time over Kamil Szeremeta.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Smith himself was asked about comments made by Benn about his punching power.
“I’m a better fighter than Conor Benn. There’s no proof that Benn punches harder than me at 154. He’s had two fights at 154 and hasn’t had a knockdown, never mind anything else.
“If Conor wants to portray that and draw confidence from it and plant seeds in Chris’s head, like I say, I’ve always been a better fighter than Conor. I’m a better fighter than Conor now. The fight can easily be made. If Conor beats Eubank and I beat Aaron McKenna then make it.”
Benn and Eubank come to blows on April 26th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Smith taking on unbeaten Aaron McKenna on the undercard.
