Conor Benn is yet to fight for a world title, but could well be given a chance to win his first belt sometime next year.
Benn is currently deep in camp ahead of his second fight with Chris Eubank Jr. in November. The pair first fought in April in what was an all-action affair with plenty of big shots thrown from the first bell to the last.
Both men ended up spending the night in the hospital, but it was Eubank Jr who took the unanimous points win after using his natural size to impose himself more on Benn.
Benn will again be coming up in weight to take on Eubank in their rematch, who will be hampered by the same 10lb rehydration clause on the morning of the fight.
Whether or not there will be a third fight likely depends on the outcome of the rematch, but if not, Been could well move on and look to fight for world honours for the first time.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Paddy Donovan revealed that should he come through his next fight with a win, he would be willing to put his world title on the line against Connor Benn.
“There are so many big opportunities when we get past Crocker, maybe Connor Benn. I think Conor is another great fighter. I like watching his fights, he’s quite exciting. That’d be a fight I’d be interested in making.”
Donovan – who trainer Andy Lee believes is a ‘generational talent’ – takes on Lewis Crocker in a rematch after their first fight in March, when Donovan took his man apart but was disqualified for throwing a hook after the bell, which floored Crocker. The ordered rematch is now for the vacant IBF Welterweight World Title, and takes place this Saturday in Belfast at Windsor Park for the vacant IBF welterweight championship.
