Conor Benn is picking his next fight carefully as he hopes to become a world champion in 2026.
Last year saw Benn twice fight his long-time generational rival Chris Eubank Jr. The first time in April, he was beaten on the cards, albeit in a competitive and action-packed fight that landed both men in the hospital to recover.
The rematch in November saw him turn the tide and win a wide points decision despite being the naturally smaller man who was fighting at 160lbs, though many suspect Eubank Jr was suffering from being too drained as he never got into his usual flow.
Speaking to iFL TV, Benn confirmed he has two possible options for his ring return, including the WBA ruler who beat Ryan Garcia on points to win the belt back in August.
“We’ve got Rolly [Romero] there. Rolly is a fight we’d love to make. If we don’t make progress with any other developments by the end of the month, then we pull the trigger on getting the Rolly fight made.”
He was then asked if the next fight he will have will definitely be for a world title.
“That’s without a shadow of a doubt. I haven’t fought at welterweight for three years, but I’ve still got all the world champions calling me out. I’ve been made mandatory by the WBC to fight Barrios or Garcia. We want Garcia to win, but the WBC belt is the belt I want, whether that’s Barrios or Garcia.”
