Conor Benn is busy plotting his next move as he zeroes in on winning a world title in 2026.
Benn announced his arrival on the world stage when he beat Chris Eubank Jr by unanimous points decision after knocking his rival down twice in their rematch back in November.
The first fight in April saw the opposite happen when it was Benn who lost a decision. However, a better performance the second time round, coupled with what many suspect was a weight drained Eubank, saw him get his career best win.
He has since said his main focus is big fights and recognised belts and, speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, newly crowned world champion Josh Kelly has put himself forward by saying a fight with Benn would be an easy tick over for him.
“Listen, we’ve been going back and forth for years so it’s a natural fight to make, especially with him coming down to 147. He says he’s trying to make that. I don’t know if there’s truth in him making that or not.
We’re both big names in the UK. The Stadium of Light would be sold out in a second. Give him his dues, he’s come on in the last few years. He beat a shell of a man in Eubank in the last fight. I think it might be a bit unfair on him tossing him in with me at the moment.
“I’m not sure he’s ever fought at the top level, in the higher echelon with people in their prime. For me, it’s an easy money fight, a tick over fight before I fight someone else, if he ever gets the cajones to jump in. We’ll soon see.”
Kelly beat Bakhram Murtazaliev last month to become the IBF light-middleweight champion. Benn has said he is chasing the winner of Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia, who fight later this month, or a fight with WBA welterweight ruler Rolly Romero.
