Conor Benn‘s fight with Chris Eubank Jr. is one of the most talked about of the year.
These two British fighters are hugely entertaining outside the ring as well as inside. Part of that is down to their long and tangled history which includes an ill-fated first planned fight back in October 2022.
That contest was called off at the last minute after Benn tested positive for a banned substance and was then provisionally suspended from fighting on British soil on and off for more than two years while investigations continued.
He was freed to fight late last year and the wheels were soon put in motion to reschedule the fight with Eubank Jr. It sees Benn moving up in weight to take on the naturally bigger, more experienced Eubank who has fought world champions such as George Groves at super-middleweight before now. The fight will take place at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds.
The weight is one major factor that means the likes of Tyson Fury thinks Eubank will take the win. With that in mind, whilst speaking to Piers Morgan, Benn was asked if he might hang up the gloves if Eubank Jr were to beat him.
“Listen I’m 28, he’s done what he’s had to do in his career. He’s finished. No, of course [I won’t retire], not that I think I will lose the fight, not that I plan on losing the fight. The reality is you can lose fights, I will lose fights in my career, but not to this man.”
Eubank Jr went the other way when asked, confirming he would indeed retire should Benn beat him.
The contest takes place on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the build-up has already seen Eubank Jr fined for smashing an egg into the face of Benn during a first press conference.
