Conor Benn is looking ahead to what could be a huge 2026.
The Brit is riding high off his rematch win over Chris Eubank Jr, having lost the first fight back in April.
Benn’s dominant performance has set him in good stead as he now looks to hunt down his first world title, back down at his more usual weight of 147lbs in the welterweight division.
Keith Connelly, Benn’s manager, has spoken to Punch Drunk Boxing and revealed his fighter’s plans for early 2026.
“We expect to fight Ryan Garcia, if he beats Barrios, in the first half of next year.”
He was then asked about the pressures of making 147 again having been up to 160 for his last fight.
“We’re going to go straight to 147, we’re going to fight for that WBC title. If anyone can do it, it’s Conor, he’s the most disciplined athlete I’ve ever met.
“He’s got a great team, great strength and conditioning coach, great coach in Tony Sims, assistant trainer Pedros. He’s got the team to do it, he’s got the discipline to do it.
“He came in at 157 on the day of the weigh-in and we put on a couple of pounds to come closer to 160. I think it’s doable, but like everything else in life it’s difficult, but I think he’ll be able to do it.”
Although the Garcia and Barrios fight is not yet official, it would be Barrios’ third defence of the WBC title following his July outing with Manny Pacquiao, who went the distance and earned a majority draw.
