Bernard Hopkins has previewed the highly intriguing match-up between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
It was announced earlier this week that the pound-for-pound stars will do battle on Saturday September 13 at an undisclosed venue in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Crawford is set to make the jump up in two weight divisions to challenge the Mexican icon, who recently captured the undisputed super-middleweight championship for the second time after he defeated former IBF champion William Scull on May 2.
With the boxing world now eagerly awaiting arguably the biggest fight in the sport, retired two-weight world champion Bernard Hopkins has shared his thoughts on Crawford’s chances of defying the odds and dethroning Canelo in what is unquestionably the toughest test of the 37-year-old’s career.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Hopkins claimed that ‘Bud’ has an extremely high chance of defeating Canelo, claiming he has an ‘eighty five percent’ chance of getting his hand raised.
“He has a legitimate chance, over 60% as far as I’m concerned. If you said ‘Bernard, give me a number’, he has an 85% chance to beat Canelo. Why? He’s not going in there to prove something which will fall into Canelo’s hands, he would love for him to prove something, that means you will stay there and try to prove something, but to go in there and let him know, establish that from the first round that I belong without showing that I am tough, I earned my position to be here and I want to show you even though you’re being stubborn that your time not only has came but it’s gone.”
Victory for Crawford would see the unbeaten American superstar become the first and only three division undisputed champion, an incredible feat that would solidify his place in the boxing history books once again.
