Bernard Hopkins Delivers Honest Verdict On Roy Jones Jr vs Mayweather Feud As Fight Talk Ramps Up

Bernard Hopkins is the latest legend to weigh in on the ongoing feud between Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr.

Boxing icons Mayweather and Jones Jr have been embroiled in an ongoing rivalry over the last few weeks, and it appears to show no signs of slowing down, with Jones Jr challenging his rival to a fight to settle their differences.

One man who knows Jones Jr well is Hopkins, with the duo having fought twice. Hopkins was on the losing end when they met early in their careers for the vacant IBF middleweight title back in 1993, before gaining revenge in their rematch at light heavyweight in 2010.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Hopkins was asked who he believes would win should Mayweather and Jones Jr meet in the ring.

“It all depends on who throws punches more.”

Hopkins was then asked about Mayweather sharing a video of himself watching Jones Jr get knocked out during his career, and ‘The Alien’ was quick to defend his former rival.

“It was more of a show of a man’s vulnerabilities. One thing I have learnt over the years, I was a villain of it, to put a man down when he’s down at his side or down by a punch. I say that if you look at Roy Jones’ defeats and look at his longevity of victories and very unorthodox, unusual, probably never be seen again style that he had, that good of him in his era will always stand now and overshadow that what went the opposite way, meaning defeat.

“Roy Jones’ rewards in his victories supersede 10 times his defeats.”

Hopkins finished by revealing what he would tell the two men were he to speak to them.

“Make sure you get paid if you fight.”

If the fight was to happen, female star Claressa Shields is confident who would come out on top.
