The winner of the rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol may have just found their next opponent.
Beterbiev and Bivol meet once again for the undisputed light-heavyweight titles in Riyadh on February 22, topping a packed bill that also includes Daniel Dubois defending his IBF heavyweight title against Joseph Parker.
It comes just four months after Beterbiev and Bivol met back in October, with Beterbiev earning the majority decision victory to add the WBA belt to his WBC, IBF and WBO straps and become the first man to solely rule the 175lbs division since Roy Jones Jr over 20 years prior.
Some fans felt that Bivol may have done enough to get the verdict on the night, but they won’t have long to wait to see if he is able to gain revenge and defeat Beterbiev in the rematch.
The victor in their fight could be set for another huge showdown, after the WBC have confirmed that the David Benavidez vs. David Morrell fight on February 1 will now be a final eliminator to determine the next WBC mandatory.
Benavidez currently holds the interim WBC strap, having defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his 175lb debut back in June, after a successful career at super-middleweight which saw him win the WBC belt at 168lbs on two occasions.
‘The Mexican Monster’ stepped up to light heavyweight after failing to secure a showdown with Canelo Alvarez, and many boxing fans believe that Canelo is avoiding his rival.
His fight with Morrell pits two undefeated fighters with big knockout ratios against one another, with Morrell currently holding the WBA regular light-heavyweight title.
It sets up a potential mouth-watering showdown for later in the year, and Benavidez has already made it clear who he feels will win the rematch between Beterbiev and Bivol.
