Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn delivered an excellent fight for the fans this weekend in London.
The ‘born rivals’ traded for twelve, with the momentum ebbing and flowing from one to the other. Ultimately it was the naturally bigger and more experience man in Eubank who came on strong to close out, throwing an incredible 335 punching in rounds ten, eleven and twelve.
He was awarded a unanimous decision victory with the scored of 116-112 across the board.
Speaking to IFL TV, former opponent Billy Joe Saunders agreed that Eubank Jr wont he fight, though felt there would be no complaints if it was called a draw.
“I had Benn winning the first five of six. Maybe a shared round in there somewhere. It was a difficult fight to judge, because all the rounds, both fighters were in.
“The first one to six, Benn landed to cleaner single punches. A lot of right hands were landing. He started to find him a bit with the jab. He had the better head movement, he had the better footwork. I just think that maybe he started a little bit too fast … Look, when you’re in there obviously the atmosphere gets the better of you and you want to do more.
“At the end of it, I felt that Eubank won it. But if they would’ve said split decision or a draw, no-one could’ve really went out in a huff and a puff.”
The pair have a contractual rematch clause that could build on the incredible action from last night, however Benn may instead consider to drop down to his natural class of welterweight to pursue world honours.
