Anthony Joshua remains one of the most talked about heavyweights on the planet, but right now it’s not necessarily for the best reasons.
Joshua has had a remarkable career that has coincided with a boxing renaissance in the UK. The former Olympic Gold medalist turned professional and had plenty of eyes on him from his first bout.
He won it by stoppage as he did all of his fights up and beyond his maiden world title contest against Charles Martin for the IBF title.
He added more belts to his honours list, with wins over Joseph Parker and Wladimir Klitschko before his first loss, which came to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019. That one was avenged, but back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk over 24 tough rounds left him without a belt going into his most recent fight with Daniel Dubois. That was again for the IBF title but saw Joshua knocked down three times on the way to fifth round stoppage loss in September.
Former two-weight world champion Billy Joe Saunders has spoken to iFL TV and was asked if Joshua should now walk away from the sport.
“I don’t think he should retire, no.”
He then spoke about Joshua’s chances of lifting another world title in future, and of beating Dubois should the pair meet again.
“Do I think that he’s good enough to become a three-time world champion? Yes. Would I back him in the rematch against Daniel Dubois? Yes, I would. The reason being is that I’ll be honest with you, anybody can have an off night.”
