Billy Joe Saunders has predicted who he believes will win Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn’s grudge match.
The British rivals are set to reignite the rivalry between their respective families when they lock horns at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on April 26.
They were initially scheduled to face each other back in October 2022 although the fight was cancelled just a few days before it was due to happen after Benn returned a positive drugs test for banned substance clomifene, which subsequently led to the 28-year-old being stripped of his British Boxing License.
One fighter who has shown an interest in the highly anticipated domestic showdown is former world super middleweight champion Saunders, who has a storied history with Eubank Jr which dates back to their own grudge match which took place over 10-years ago which Saunders won on points.
In an interview with BoxNation, Saunders weighed in on his former opponents chances of being successful on April 26, as he backs the younger man to do the job and win via knockout.
“As of late he’s looked a little bit old should we say, and don’t forget Eubank’s not the kind of boxer to get on behind his jab, get a nice lead, use his footwork, he’s been in some scraps and he’s been in some good scraps with not the best opponents but they’ve still give him some good work, I just think if Conor catches him clean and can follow up on one of them good shots, sort of like a Liam Smith shot, I think Conor Benn knocks him out.”
Benn last fought over a year ago, defeating Peter Dobson in an underwhelming performance. The 28-year-old from London is set to be granted a British Boxing Board of Control license in the coming weeks, after there were concerns that he would not be allowed to fight under their jurisdiction in light of his failed drugs tests ahead of the cancelled bout.
