Canelo Alvarez has lost just twice throughout his illustrious boxing career.
One of those defeats came over a decade ago back in September 2013, when he was beaten on points by former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.
Another 10 years nearly passed before Canelo came up short again, losing by unanimous decision against Dmitry Bivol in May 2022.
Alvarez will be hoping he doesn’t suffer his third loss when he returns to action in September, defending his undisputed super-middleweight crown against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas.
One factor heading into the fight is how Crawford will deal with the power of Canelo after stepping up two weight divisions to face the Mexican superstar, something that Bivol himself knows first hand about.
After sharing 12 rounds with Alvarez, Bivol gave his verdict during the post-fight press conference of that bout on exactly what he made of his rival’s punching ability.
“I felt his power. He has really good power. He has good speed, good power, good sense, but some people are born with the power. I don’t have that type of power. I can throw a power punch if I want to put the power into my punch, I can do it intentionally and some other boxers, they have power in every punch.
“They can just throw a punch and it’s already powerful. To be honest, as a light-heavyweight, I didn’t feel like he had that power that you get from birth, I felt like he was just putting everything he can into every punch and trying to make it powerful.”
With just a few weeks to go until the upcoming showdown between Canelo and Crawford, one former sparring partner of both men has delivered his prediction for the clash.
