Terence Crawford is reportedly set to return in 2025.
The four-weight world champion has fought just once per year since 2020, becoming undisputed at welterweight in that time and, most recently, winning the WBA Super-Welterweight World Title against Israil Madrimov.
Despite some intriguing match-ups in that division like Vergil Ortiz Jr and Sebastian Fundora, Crawford is still set on moving up further in weight
Speaking to the media in the days after his rematch announcement with Artur Beterbiev, former light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol revealed that he was recently in conversation with Crawford, who confirmed that he was still chasing Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.
“We were talking about [Canelo] of course. He wants to fight him. I asked him, the first question, how is the fight? He said, ‘I want it but I cannot see it from that side.'”
Canelo says he will entertain talks in January and isn’t taking any fight off the table.
The Mexican has lost just twice in 66 fights, most recently to Bivol in a move up to light-heavyweight. With that in mind, the Russian technician was asked if he would be giving Crawford advice if he lands the fight. He says he is good enough to not need it.
“He’s one of my favourite fighters. I told him before and I’m telling it now. He’s very smart. He knows how to use his skills even though he’s older than before. He has a good chance, to be honest, with his style … I will not advise him because he knows already what to do. If he asks me maybe I will tell my experience, but I will not advice. He can get that himself with his coach.”
Canelo was initially targeting a rematch with Bivol, but that was before he lost to Beterbiev in a close-run fight. He gets his chance at redemption – and all four belts – on February 22.
