Saul Canelo Alvarez is the current king of the super-middleweight division.

The Mexican superstar has a record of 62 wins, 2 defeats and 2 draws, but he has never lost a fight in the 168lb division, winning all 11 of the bouts he’s had in that weight class.

The most recent of those came in September when he defeated Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision to retain his WBC, WBA and WBO titles.

He has also beaten fighters like Gennady Golovkin, Caleb Plant, Callum Smith, Jermell Charlo, Billy Joe Saunders and Jaime Munguia at super-middleweight, with fans wondering where his next major challenge could come from.

It was believed that David Benavidez could provide that challenge, having put together an impressive unbeaten record of 29-0, with 24 of those wins by knockout.

Benavidez has recently moved up to light-heavyweight though and a fight with Canelo doesn’t currently look close to happening, but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has named the man who he thinks could beat Alvarez.

While most onlookers felt Benavidez did have the best chance, Arum has named another fighter, telling Boxing News that undefeated Christian Mbilli has what it takes to win.

“We really think that Mbilli would give Canelo a hell of a fight, I think he would beat Canelo, but whatever it would be a really good fight. I think Mbilli also would be very competitive with Benavidez. He is really a force to be reckoned with.”

Arum has previously been unable to pick a winner between Canelo and Benavidez.

Mbilli has a record of 28-0, with 23 victories coming by way of stoppage. He is currently ranked number one with the WBC, which could put him in line for a shot against Canelo and that is undoubtedly a bigger money bout for the Mexican.
