Terence Crawford has one man in his sights to cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighter’s of all time.
The 36-year-old has been out of the ring for over a year. His last outing saw him put in a career defining performance against welterweight rival Errol Spence Jr. Many fans billed the fight as a 50/50 contest, but ‘Bud’ dominated from the opening bell and stopped his man in the ninth round.
Since then Crawford has made it clear he wants to challenge super-middleweight ruler, Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez for his undisputed crown.
A fight against the Mexican star would involve a three-weight class jump for Crawford, something Canelo claims would give him no credit if he beat the naturally smaller man.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Crawford’s old promoter, Bob Arum, believes Canelo would ‘wipe the floor’ with his ex-fighter.
“I think Canelo wipes the floor with him.
I love Crawford, I told you when Crawford was fighting Spence that Crawford would beat the hell out of him.
But Canelo is a different proposition. It’s an interesting fight, but I think there’s only one winner. Canelo is used to fighting at a particular level and I don’t think that Terence can hurt Canelo, but Canelo can hurt Terence.”
Crawford will start his move up in weight in his next fight when he takes on WBA super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 in los Angeles.
