Legendary promoter Bob Arum has shared his thoughts on the controversial match-up between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.

Reigning WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ Davis is set to face the Youtuber-Turned-boxer at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Davis’ last ring appearance came in March when his WBA world title defence against fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr was declared a majority decision draw, although some viewers believe ‘The Reaper’ had done more than enough to dethrone the 30-year-old from Baltimore.

As for Paul, the 28-year-old Cleveland-native made his return to the ring on June 28 as he defeated Mexico’s former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their cruiserweight bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, Top Rank’s Arum made his feelings clear on the match-up.

“Isn’t that stupid?

“I mean, Jake Paul is twice the size. I mean how do you make a match like that?”

Many fans and analysts have expressed their concerns towards Davis being allowed to step into the ring with Paul, a man who stands at eight inches taller than him and who weighed in at over 60 pounds heavier ahead of his fight with Chavez, compared to what Davis weighed in at before he faced Roach earlier this year.

It is expected that the official weight limit and fight rules are set to be made announced in the coming days, with the launch press conference set to take place on Monday 22 September.
