Keyshawn Davis is no longer the WBO lightweight champion after losing his title on the scales.

After winning the belt with an impressive fourth round knockout win against Denys Berinchyk in February, Davis was set to make the first defence of his strap against Edwin De Los Santos in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday.

Those plans went up in smoke though after Davis shockingly came in four pounds over the lightweight limit, resulting in him being immediately stripped of his title.

A lengthy negotiation between the two camps them began in order to try and reach a compromise that would have allowed the fight to still proceed, but a deal was unable to be reached and it meant that the fight had to be cancelled.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has guided the career of Davis for a number of years, and has been full of praise for his man in the past.

It is clear that Arum is less than impressed with his latest behaviour though, after journalist Dan Rafael revealed on social media the thoughts of the legendary promoter.

“I don’t know what this guy (Davis) was thinking. I don’t know what all the trainers he has were doing. I don’t understand it anymore. It’s very disappointing, especially in the kid’s hometown.”

Despite the fight not taking place, it has been reported that De Los Santos will still receive his full purse. Davis is now set to move up to 140lbs for his next fight, but the past 24 hours has seemingly left a sour taste in the mouth of a lot of boxing fans.
