Legendary promoter Bob Arum has shared his thoughts on a potential clash between Manny Pacquiao and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

Eight-division world champion Pacquiao made a shock return to the sport on July 19, fighting to a majority decision draw against reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As for ‘Rolly’, the 29-year-old from Las Vegas put on a career-best display against Ryan Garcia on May 2, defeating his countryman via unanimous decision at Times Square in New York to capture the regular version of the WBA world welterweight title. He will soon be upgraded to full champion due to Jaron Ennis moving up in weight.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Arum spoke about the possibility of Pacquiao facing Romero at some stage in the near future, and said his 46-year-old former charge would be ‘competitive’ against someone like ‘Rolly’.

“I think Manny would be competitive against any of those people, and I think Romero is less of a boxer than this guy that Manny just fought, who would be ideal for Manny. I give Manny a good chance to win against Romero.”

Pacquiao has already confirmed to the boxing world that he intends to continue with his boxing career, although it remains to be seen whether he will make a return to the ring before the end of the year.

As for ‘Rolly’, the 29-year-old could go on to make the first defence of his WBA title against the legendary Filipino next, although there have been reports circulating that he will face Garcia in a rematch instead.
