Bob Arum has had his say on a potential showdown between Devin Haney and Rolando Romero.

‘Rolly’ pulled off a shock upset victory over Ryan Garcia on May 2 to capture the vacant WBA Regular Welterweight Title at the iconic Times Square in the heart of New York City.

Haney also made his return to the ring as he defeated former unified super-lightweight champion Jose Ramirez in what was an underwhelming twelve round bout on the same card.

With both fighters now potentially in line to face one another next, legendary promoter Bob Arum has spoken out and shared his verdict on what he believes could happen if they were to lock horns in the near future.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Arum said that Haney and Romero would be interesting and gave his backing to the newly crowned WBA ‘regular’ welterweight champion ‘Rolly’ should Haney perform in the same manner.

“Well it’s an interesting fight, if Devin fights Rolly the way he fought Ramirez [then] he doesn’t win so again, I’ve seen Haney in a lot of fights and I’ve never saw him fight this way so based on fighting the way he did tonight, against what Rolly showed fighting Garcia tonight, I would pick Rolly. But again I don’t think you’re gonna see Haney so bad as he looked tonight.”

‘The Dream’ received heavy criticism for his performance against Ramirez earlier this month, with many viewers expressing their disappointment in the 26-year-old two-weight world champion’s lack of desire to engage.

A rematch between Haney and Garcia had been in contention to take place later this year, but these plans have likely been squandered following Romero’s shock win over ‘King Ry’.
