Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing earlier this month, apparently drawing the curtain on a glittering career.
The 36-year-old Englishman suffered back-to-back defeats to heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk last year, losing out on the opportunity to become the undisputed champion back in May before falling short once again in their huge rematch in December.
Fury had been linked with an all-British showdown against Anthony Joshua, but it appears boxing fans will now miss out on the fight which has been speculated for a number of years.
One man who has given his thoughts on the shock retirement of Fury is legendary promoter Bob Arum, who co-promoted the 36-year-old alongside Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions.
Speaking to FightHype, Arum was asked if he believes ‘The Gypsy King’ was serious about his retirement, or whether he thinks we could see him return to the ring once more.
“I think when he said he was retired he was serious. Now that doesn’t mean the way he figures things out will be the same next month or in 3 or 4 months, he might change his mind. But I certainly believe that when he said that he was retired, he meant it.”
It remains to be seen whether Fury is a man of his word, or if he could be tempted to lace the gloves up just one more time against his long-term heavyweight rival ‘AJ’.
Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has already spoken out to confirm he will be reaching out to ‘The Gypsy King’ in the near future, but said he will allow him to spend some time with his family before doing so.
