Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is less than two weeks away.
Paul takes the latest step in his boxing journey when he goes up against former WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on June 28.
‘The Problem Child’ was last in action in November, defeating heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a controversial bout, due to ‘Iron Mike’ being over 30 years older than Paul and having not competed in nearly two decades.
Chavez Jr will be 39 for the bout against Paul, much younger than Tyson who was 58 for his clash eight months ago, but the upcoming battle has still received some criticism from boxing personnel, with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum one of them.
Arum has been speaking to Fight Hub TV about the fight, with the legendary promoter explaining that he has ‘absolutely no interest in it.’
“Chavez Jr, I thought he had hung up the gloves a long time ago. Jake Paul is not a boxer. It’s a spectacle. The Tyson event was sort of demeaning for the sport of boxing. Tyson was an old man. What are we talking about? But, if Netflix or somebody else wants to pay for that event, that’s fine. I have no interest in it. I have absolutely no interest in a Jake Paul-Chavez Jr fight, because it’s not boxing.”
“Jake Paul is not fighting a real fighter. He’s smarter than you and me combined. It’s not a scam because people know what they’re getting, but he’s not interested in fighting somebody that can really give him a whooping.”
Tyson himself has also weighed in on the fight, needing just one word to sum up his reaction.
