Riddick Bowe has revealed who he believes to be the greatest heavyweight to have ever laced up the gloves.
Bowe enjoyed an accomplished professional career of his own, where he became the undisputed heavyweight champion back in 1992.
The Olympic silver medallist entered the paid ranks back in 1989 and would go on to rack up 43 victories throughout the course of his tenure, including two impressive wins over two-weight undisputed champion Evander Holyfield in 1992 and 1995 respectively.
He cut his career short back in 1996 after he defeated Andrew Golota for the second time, but he would make his return to the ring nine years later with a second round stoppage victory over countryman Marcus Rhode in Oklahoma.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Bowe didn’t hesitate to name Muhammed Ali as the greatest heavyweight of all time in his opinion.
“Muhammad Ali. Nobody beat the guys he beat and did it the way he did it.”
Ali is widely considered to be the best fighter to have ever graced the sport, proving his credentials throughout his 21-year career which stretched between 1960 and 1981.
He became the world heavyweight champion on several occasions along the way, defeating the likes of Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and George Foreman amongst a number of others.
His 1974 victory over Foreman, which was dubbed The Rumble In The Jungle’, is often regarded as being one of the sport’s most memorable and iconic moments.
After a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Ali tragically passed away at 74-years-old back in 2016, although his incredible legacy lives on to this very day and will continue to for years to come.
