American duo Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez are just one month away from their highly-anticipated showdown.
Brooklyn’s Lopez is set to make the fourth defence of his WBO light-welterweight title against Stevenson at the world-famous Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 31.
Lopez was last in action back in May when he comprehensively defeated mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr via unanimous decision at Times Square.
As for Stevenson, the unbeaten three-weight world champion produced arguably the best performance of his professional career to date on July 12 when he outpointed Mexico’s William Zepeda to defend his WBC lightweight crown for the third time.
One fighter in particular who has been given exclusive access to Stevenson’s camp recently is Nahir Albright, who has previously acted as a sparring partner to the unbeaten American.
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, Albright didn’t hesitate to back Stevenson to get the job done over Lopez, as he claims the three-weight world champion’s defensive skills are ‘next level’ in comparison to some of Lopez’s other opponents.
“Oh yeah that’s a hell of a fight. I’m gonna go with Shakur. I just know Shakur’s gonna win. I feel like Jamaine Ortiz gave Teo some problems right? With the angles and stuff like that, and Shakur’s defence is a next level compared to Jamaine Ortiz.”
Victory for Stevenson would see the 28-year-old from New Jersey become a world champion in a fourth weight division, as well as establishing himself as one of the best active fighters on the planet.
