Boxing Legend Says Jake Paul Will Become World Champion Within 2 Years: “I’m Calling It Now”

Legendary fighter-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes Jake Paul has what it takes to win a legitimate world title.

The former Youtube star made his way into professional boxing back in 2020 and has suffered just one defeat in 13 bouts since then, falling short to Tommy Fury in February of 2023.

Paul has racked up victories over a number of former UFC superstars along the way, including the likes of Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.

The 28-year-old from Cleveland made his long-awaited return to the ring back in July, defeating former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the conclusion of their cruiserweight bout in Anaheim, California.

As he prepares for his controversial match-up with reigning WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Paul remains set on securing himself a shot at becoming a legitimate world champion in the near future, potentially at cruiserweight where he is ranked number 14 with the WBA.

Speaking on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak, Oscar De La Hoya voiced his opinion on whether he thinks Paul could potentially become a world champion, as he backs the 28-year-old to achieve this feat ‘within two years’.

“I’m going to call it right here and right now. I think Jake Paul becomes world champion within two years … I don’t know how many fights that would be but within two years, I believe Jake will be a world champ.”

Regardless of the result of his upcoming exhibition clash with Davis, Paul is expected to turn his attention back to making a push towards securing himself a shot at a cruiserweight world title and proving his many doubters wrong in the process.
