Floyd Mayweather retired with an unbeaten record, but one fighter believes he could have changed that.
The 48-year-old from Grand Rapids had a glittering professional career which culminated in him winning world titles in five weight classes as well as defeating all 50 of the opponents he came up against.
He racked up an abundance of career defining victories throughout his tenure, defeating the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao, who he fought in ‘The Fight Of The Century’ back in 2015.
Despite his incredible achievements and proving to be one of boxing’s greatest defensive fighters of all time, Panamanian icon Roberto Duran believes he would have been the man to hand Mayweather a defeat.
Speaking in a YouTube interview, Duran sent a stern message to the retired American superstar, claiming he would have ‘broken his ribs’ if they had ever faced each other.
“On his last fight he was slow, he lacked punching power. Who has he fought? Nobody. If Mayweather had fought with me, I would have broke all his ribs! I would not have any business upstairs. A man who defends like this will let the liver exposed to avoid with his back, then your punch will go directly to the ribs.”
Duran is often credited with being one of the greatest fighters of all time, with his outstanding career backing these claims up. He rose to prominence in the early to mid 1980s, with arguably the most famous victory of his tenure coming against Sugar Ray Leonard, who he defeated to capture the WBC welterweight title back in 1980.
