A British Boxing Legend has U-turned on an announcement he made about returning to the sport.
In the modern era of social media promotion and big money boxing, plenty of fighters have suggested they might make a return for the right opponent.
Mike Tyson famously stuck to his word, taking on Jake Paul back in November despite being more than twice his age, while Carl Froch has also called out Paul and said he would consider a return for the right purse. Roy Jones Jr is in his 50s but recently named three men he would happily challenge in the ring. Former heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs often promises a return to boxing and Manny Pacquiao is doing just that despite being 46 when he takes on Mario Barrios for a world title.
A more surprising announcement came from Chris Eubank Sr recently when he suggested that if his son rematches Conor Benn, he too would step back into the ring for an exhibition. It was designed as a way of preventing Junior from taking what Senior believes is an unsafe fight with Benn, whom he beat on points first time round, due to the weight difference between the two.
However, on his own YouTube channel Call Chris Eubank, Sr admitted he will not, in fact, be making a return with a written statement at the end of his most recent video.
“I officially withdraw the statement I made about “fighting again” if my son fights, as some people are taking it seriously.”
As of yet, nothing has been announced regarding the Benn and Eubank rematch, however it is contracted and both men appear to want it. Eubank Sr has come out against the second fight despite being a big part of the first promotion.
