Gervonta Davis lost his perfect winning record against Lamont Roach on Saturday.
It was an extremely competitive fight, with Davis seeming to control the early rounds, but Roach came back into the contest in the second half of the fight, landing some big shots that caught ‘Tank’ clean.
Controversy then struck in the ninth round when ‘Tank’ appeared to take a knee and then retreat to his corner, but the referee decided not to score it as a knockdown.
Despite missing out on a potential 10-8 round, Roach still finished the fight strong, as it went the distance and was left in the hands of the judges.
They scored the contest 115-113 Davis, and 114-114 twice, meaning the fight ended in a majority decision draw, potentially ending any hopes of seeing ‘Tank’ facing fellow world champions Shakur Stevenson or Keyshawn Davis in his next fight.
Here’s how some of the big names from the boxing world reacted to the result, including the controversial ninth round.

Big-time missed call by a quality referee in Steve Willis. Lamont Roach landed a left hand and while it didn’t seem to land with impact, Gervonta Davis took a knee afterward and then retrieved his mouthpiece which was apparently not placed in before the start of Round 9.

There are no timeouts in boxing. Davis intentionally took a knee. That should have been a knockdown. Incredible missed call. https://t.co/I5w0MSELyT

Rd 9: Tank 10-9, action really picking up, good exchanges, Roach taking some big shots and answering! Tank did take a knee and ref ignored it!
