The dust continues to settle following the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight.
Davis and Roach fought out a majority decision draw at the Barclays Center in New York, in a fight that drew that a lot of controversy.
‘Tank’ voluntarily took a knee in the ninth round, and despite the referee initially counting, he chose to stop and didn’t rule it as a knockdown.
It’s an incident that has drawn a lot of debate within the boxing world, with two-weight world champion Tim Bradley the latest to offer his thoughts.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bradley first discussed what he made to Davis taking a knee.
“I went back and watched the knockdown, because that sh*t was a knockdown. He got hit with a shot and then he took the knee. I’m like wait hold up, that’s a knockdown. The ref started counting and then Tank was like “I’ve got something in my eye.’
“You cannot take your own time outs in boxing. You can’t do that. The only person that can take Tank to that corner to wipe his eye is the referee himself. You chose to wear those braids. That’s Tank’s fault.”
Bradley then revealed that after re-watching the fight, he has scored it a different way.
“I went back and scored it. I got it 7 rounds to 5, or even 8-4. And I got it for Roach. Ain’t no shade on Tank, but I’m telling you, he lost this fight. He got out hustled.”
Roach launched an appeal to try and get the result changed, but the New York State Athletic Commission announced they would be sticking with the original decision. Despite this, it looks continuously likely that Davis and Roach will rematch this summer.
