Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather were once extremely close allies.
After hanging up the gloves himself, Mayweather guided the career of Davis, helping ‘Tank’ in his journey to becoming world champion.
Several years since Davis first claiming world honours, the pair no longer work together after the relationship turned sour, leading to a number of shots thrown by both men in the opposite direction.
It has seen ‘Tank’ reveal that he wanted to try and get Mayweather out of retirement for a fight, and now former two-weight world champion Tim Bradley has weighed in on the feud by giving his take on how a bout would have gone.
Mayweather retired with a perfect 50-0 record, becoming a world champion in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight, while ‘Tank’ holds an unbeaten record of 30-0-1, having held gold at 130lbs, 135lbs and 140lbs.
Bradley has given his prediction to ESNews on a potential Davis vs. prime Mayweather fight at lightweight, and was defiant with his answer.
“Mayweather.”
He then addressed the business side of things.
“Gervonta Davis is nothing without Mayweather. Mayweather is still Mayweather, whether he is boxing or not, Tank needs Mayweather.
“Mayweather made Tank. Of course Tank did the fights and has the power and all that, but without Mayweather he wouldn’t be where he’s at today, guaranteed.”
WBA lightweight champion Davis is expected to return to action this summer when he takes part in a rematch with Lamont Roach, following their controversial draw that occurred back in March, which saw ‘Tank’ take a knee but no knockdown was scored.
