Hall of Famer Tim Bradley believes he knows exactly why Canelo Alvarez will avoid facing one fighter in particular at all costs.
Mexican great Canelo has been out of action since he suffered the third defeat of his professional career to former pound-for-pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford last September.
Alvarez was dethroned of his undisputed super-middleweight championship when he faced Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, a shock defeat that sent shockwaves through the sport.
The 35-year-old from Guadalajara underwent successful elbow surgery shortly after the bout and is now set to make his return to action later this year against WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli.
Another fighter that has been linked with a showdown with Alvarez over the last few years is three-weight world champion David Benavidez, who at one point was the mandatory challenger to the Mexican’s WBC super-middleweight crown.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, two-weight world champion Bradley claims he isn’t surprised that Canelo is yet to face Benavidez as he admits he wouldn’t want to fight ‘The Mexican Monster’ after he put on a ‘hell of a performance’ against Gilberto Ramirez.
“Canelo, I know why your ass don’t wanna fight that. Canelo, I know that. S**t, I wouldn’t wanna fight that motherf***er either Canelo. Benavidez put on a hell of a performance.”
Benavidez stopped ‘Zurdo’ in the sixth round of their bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas earlier this month to capture the unified WBA and WBO world cruiserweight titles, in an outstanding performance from one of the biggest stars in boxing.
