Retired two-weight world champion Tim Bradley has slammed Matchroom Boxing’s latest big signing in a shock claim.
The California-native won world titles at super-lightweight and welterweight throughout the course of his own career, racking up victories over the likes of Ruslan Provodnikov, Juan Manuel Marquez and Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao.
Bradley shared the ring with Pacquiao on several occasions within the space of four years, although he was beaten by the eight division world champion in their second and third clashes after he got the better of him in their first encounter to capture the WBO welterweight title in June of 2012.
Since announcing his retirement back in 2017, Bradley is known to have voiced his opinion about many of the sport’s biggest names whilst working as an analyst and commentator, and he has now taken aim at a British star.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Bradley sensationally claimed that Matchroom Boxing’s latest star signing Ben Whittaker is ‘not that good’, as he slams the credentials of the former Olympian.
“If you guys can’t handle the truth, you don’t belong in this channel. I’m just going to let y’all know right now. If you can’t handle my truth and what I see with my eyes and doing this 32 years and climbing, then this ain’t the channel for you.
“If I think you’re mediocre and I say you’re mediocre, that’s just what it is, I’m not holding back on what I feel and what I truly believe, ain’t that what y’all asked for? Ain’t that what y’all want? Y’all want the real right? Well I’ve given you the real.
“Ben Whittaker is not that good, I don’t care about that commercial that he did with Eddie Hearn, I don’t care that Eddie Hearn’s signed him, he’s not that good, period, sooner or later you’re gonna see.”
It was announced earlier this month that Whittaker had signed a long-term promotional deal with Matchroom, with his debut under their banner set to come next month as he gears up to face Germany’s Benjamin Gavazi in a ten round light-heavyweight bout at the NEC Arena in Birmingham.
After claiming a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics, Whittaker has put together an unbeaten record of 9 wins, 1 draw and 0 defeats to date, with his last bout in April ending in a second round stoppage victory over Liam Cameron.
