Shannon Briggs Trained Jake Paul And Now Delivers His Verdict On Gervonta Davis Fight

Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has shared his thoughts on the controversial match-up between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.

Three-weight world champion Davis is gearing up to lock horns with the former YouTube star in a scheduled ten round exhibition clash on Friday November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

‘Tank’ is set to make his first ring appearance since March after his WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach Jr was declared a majority decision draw after a competitive 12 rounds in New York City.

As for Paul, the 28-year-old from Cleveland made his latest ring appearance back in June when he defeated Mexico’s Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision in what was a dominant performance.

One man who worked with Paul during the early stages of his career was Briggs, who became world champion with a stoppage win over Siarhei Liakhovich back in 2006, and has also claimed victories over the likes of George Foreman and Ray Mercer in his career.

Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, Briggs gave an honest assessment of the controversial match-up between Davis and ‘The Problem Child’.

“It’s great for boxing, I used to train with Jake Paul. I got those boys started and I knew then from early on that this was going to be great.

“They had their own fan base and look what’s happening, chasing opportunities to get a huge payday and go back to boxing if he want it or leave it alone, but it’s hard to make money in this business, so many fighters [and] not enough paydays and guess what? He getting the big one.”

Paul has suffered just one defeat since making his professional boxing debut back in 2020, falling short to Britain’s Tommy Fury who he faced in Diriyah back in February of 2023.

‘The Problem Child’ has racked up victories over a number of high profile opponents along the way, including heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and former UFC world champions Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.
