Only one Brit has so far has taken on the former long-ruling champion Deontay Wilder.

The American was renowned for being one of the biggest punchers in the division, with 42 of his 43 wins coming by knockout. However, since his trilogy with Tyson Fury, he has failed to be at his best.

The pair’s first fight came back in 2018 and ended in a draw after Fury had returned from a long lay-off. They went at it again in 2020, and this time Fury won by KO. The third and final match came in 2021 and again saw Fury come out with a KO win, but not before being put down several times himself.

Since then, Wilder has had one first-round KO over Robert Helenius, and two more losses – the first on points against Joseph Parker, and the second by KO to Zhilei Zhang back in June last year.

He is set to return for the first time in a year in June against Tyrrell Herndon in Kansas, with his career very much on the line.

Now, much-loved British heavyweight Dave Allen may be in line for a shot at ‘The Bronze Bomber.’ He has just beaten Johnny Fisher in a career-best performance, which makes him the WBA Intercontinental champion. Speaking to Talksport, he has revealed he has sent texts to promoter Eddie Hearn about his next fight.

“I text Eddie Hearn and said, ‘Why don’t we get a few wins and then box Wilder?’ Eddie replied saying, ‘It could happen, yeah.’ Genuinely, for some reason, bizarrely in 2025, Dave Allen could box Deontay Wilder.

“[Wilder’s] not the fighter he was, but it’s still crazy that it could even be an option. They are the sort of fights that would really get the best out of me. It’s dreamland really, and definitely a fight I would love.”

Allen has previously taken on the likes of Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte and David Price and never managed to win at the highest level, but the win over Fisher suggests he may still have plenty left.
