Frank Bruno Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Usyk Could Beat Everyone In His Era

Frank Bruno has been asked to compare how the great Oleksandr Usyk would have fared back in his era in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Those decades were golden years for boxing, with some of the biggest names in the sport competing up and down the divisions.

Bruno himself was one of them and eventually managed to become a world champion at the fourth time of asking in 1994 when he beat Oliver McCall, having already failed when taking on Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis, two other standouts from the time, and two enduring legends of the banner division.

Today, it is Usyk who rules the roost as the only ever two-time undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era, having beaten the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

Speaking to Clubhouse Boxing, Bruno was asked if Usyk would beat everyone from his era and he suggested not.

“I think it was a different cup of tea. Different class, You had some guys from America, some guys from all over the world at that time. It was all under one belt, they made it into three belts or whatever but yeah it was a tough time. If he came into our era, yeah, I don’t think so.”

Usyk has not fought since last August when he stopped Dubois for a second time. Rather than fight his WBO mandatory challenger Fabio Wardley, he instead vacated that belt and announced that he wants to take on American former champion Deontay Wilder.
