Former Heavyweight Champion Buster Douglas Predicts Sugar Ray Leonard vs Floyd Mayweather Fight

James ‘Buster’ Douglas has predicted the outcome of an intriguing fantasy match-up between Sugar Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather.

Both Mayweather and Leonard are widely considered to be two of the sport’s greatest ever fighters, proving their credentials throughout the course of their respective professional careers.

Leonard rose to fame during the 1980s, becoming a member of the iconic ‘Four Kings’ alongside Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler. He would go on to become a five-weight world champion, including holding the undisputed welterweight championship back in 1981.

As for Mayweather, the Michigan native is often regarded as being the greatest defensive fighter of all time, also winning world titles in five divisions throughout the course of his 21-year tenure. He racked up a number of career-defining victories along the way, defeating the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao to name a few.

Douglas was involved in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport when he knocked out Mike Tyson in 1990, and he’s spoken to FightHype to share his thoughts on a fantasy showdown between Leonard and Mayweather.

“It’s gonna be a close one, I’ll have to go with Sugar man.”

Leonard shared the ring with each of the ‘Four Kings’ at least once during his accomplished professional career, but perhaps the most famous victory of his campaign came in 1980 when he faced Panamanian great Duran for the second time.

After their first encounter ended with Duran dethroning Leonard of his WBC welterweight title. the American legend got his revenge in their rematch, forcing ‘Hands of Stone’ to quit in the eighth round of their bout in New Orleans.
