Caleb Plant Knows Who Hits Harder Between Canelo and David Benavidez After Facing Both

Caleb Plant is one of the few men to have faced both Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez and David Benavidez so is uniquely placed to judge the power of the two rivals.

Benavidez has long been chasing a fight against the undisputed super-middleweight champion but, even with fan and boxing industry pressure, Canelo doesn’t seem in any rush to make the clash happen.

Plant always comes to fight and even though he gave a spirited performance against Canelo, he suffered his first career defeat when he got stopped in the eleventh round.

Against Benavidez, the tale of the fight was similar but this time the 31-year-old survived to hear the final bell and lost by unanimous decision.

Speaking on ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Plant said it was ‘obvious’ that Canelo packed more power than Benavidez.

“Obviously I think Canelo has got more pop. I’m not saying David doesn’t but I think Canelo’s got more pop.”

On who would get their hand raised if they were to meet, Plant was coy on giving a prediction and would just be ‘excited’ to see it happen.

“But David is a bigger guy, he puts more punches together and you’d really just have to let the bell ring and let those guys line up and see how it went. Both really good fighters so who knows but I’d be excited to see that fight.”

Benavidez grew tired of waiting for his shot at Canelo’s belts and moved up to light-heavyweight for his last outing against former champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk where he cruised to a unanimous decision victory.

The ‘Mexican Monster’ now faces a decision to either move back down to try and force a fight with Canelo or stay at 175 and face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol.
