Fight week for Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn is finally here.
Their meeting has been a long time coming, with the pair having first been set to do battle back in October 2022, before a failed drugs test for Benn just days ahead of that bout meant it had to be postponed.
That led to Benn having a long and drawn out process with the British Boxing Board of Control and UK Anti-Doping, but after two low-key victories in the USA, he is now able to resume his career in the UK.
Saturday will see him compete on British shores for the first time in over three years, with his last fight in England coming when he stopped Chris van Heerden inside two rounds in Manchester in April 2022.
As for Eubank Jr, he has competed three times since the initial fight with Benn fell through, suffering a fourth round stoppage loss to Liam Smith in January 2023, before avenging that defeat by claiming a 10th round TKO eight months later.
Most recently, Eubank Jr defeated Kamil Szeremeta by seventh round knockout in Saudi Arabia in October, and now prepares to take on Benn at the Tottenham Hotpsur Stadium in London on Saturday.
One man that will be watching is former world champion Joe Calzaghe, who famously won his first world title by defeating Chris Eubank Sr by unanimous decision in October 1997, going on to hold world honours for over a decade whilst making 21 title defences.
Calzaghe has given his prediction for this weekend’s battle, telling Talksport Boxing that he was slightly favouring Eubank Jr.
“Yeah I think it’s a tough one to call. Talent-wise I think they’re on the same sort of level but size normally size wins fights so I sort of edge with Eubank as he’s the bigger guy naturally.”
With the Eubank Jr vs. Benn fight now just days away, a retired former world champion has revealed he wants to take on the winner.
