Canelo Alvarez is gearing up for a monumental showdown with Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.

The Mexican superstar will defend his undisputed world super-middleweight championship against Crawford in September.

Canelo recently became a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs after he defeated former IBF champion William Scull at the beginning of the month, becoming the only fighter in boxing history to accomplish this feat.

It has been speculated that the 34-year-old from Guadalajara could draw the curtain on his glittering professional career after he faces Crawford, with the likes of former promoter Eddie Hearn saying he believes it to be likely.

Speaking at a recent press conference for a golfing event, Canelo made his retirement plans clear, stating he will walk away from the sport in no more than three years.

“[Turki Alalshikh] is the one I’m definitely going to retire with. My body is fine, I can keep fighting for several more years. 37 is the age I want to retire, not for boxing to retire me. I don’t need to do it for the money or legacy, I said I was going to retire at 37 and I’m sure I will.”

Canelo has also long been linked with a bout against newly-crowned WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez, who has called for a showdown with the Mexican icon for a number of years, dating back to when he was the mandatory challenger to Canelo’s WBC super-middleweight title.

Alvarez has also been called out by Jermall Charlo, but a left-field potential opponent is Jake Paul, who was negotiating a fight with the 34-year-old at the beginning of the year.
